Q. Can you tell us a little about the online programs offered at Weber State University?

WSU Online, Weber State University's virtual campus, offers classes that conform to the academic calendar but can be attended anytime and anywhere via the internet. Multiple degree and certificate programs are offered as online programs, along with a wide variety of general education courses. Areas included at WSU are Bachelor of Integrated Studies, Computer Science, General Studies, Health Information Management, Health Services Administration, Medical Laboratory Science, and Radiologic Sciences. Each program area may have multiple degree or certificate offerings.

Q. What advice would you give to students interested in an online degree program?

Students who wish to take courses at Weber State University need to understand they need to be self-motivated. Students should set aside time each week to work on their courses just like they were coming to a class on campus. This can certainly be at a time and place that works for them, but it should be consistent without interruptions. For face-to-face courses the rule of thumb is for every 50-minute class period, you should plan on two hours of homework. Start with this in mind, making sure you set enough time aside to get through your assignments. You may always adjust as you determine the time needs of the course. Don't be afraid to ask questions of the faculty or students. Engage them just like you would in the classroom. This is your learning opportunity, and you should get what you need out of the course.

Q. How do you anticipate online learning might evolve in the coming years?

Online learning helped make education more available to students. This trend will continue as more students try to juggle their personal life choices. Education is one of the great levelers of society. It helps people grow intellectually, financially and can help them become whoever they would like to be. Online learning will continue to help educate society and fulfill the dreams of many people who may not have had the chance before.
