Mean earned wages for pilots were $73,490; for avionics technicians, $52,050; and for aircraft mechanics and service technicians, $52,280. Many pilots could could find that employment opportunities are related to changes in the economy and that furloughs could be possible during economic downturns, according to the BLS. However, job opportunities for those working as aircraft mechanics and service technicians are predicted to be better than in the past with some of the best opportunities available for those willing to work in rural locations, according to the BLS.
